Panguitch Lake Ice Fishing 12.29.2012

Nate and I headed up to Panguitch Lake on Sat Dec 29th 2012. We left St. George at about 5:45am and after a stop at Maverick we had everything setup and were fishing at about 8am. The guy in the tent next to us was hollering about every 10 mins "fish on!" So we knew fishing should be good. The ice had been on for at least a week and half maybe two. There was a good 6-8 inchs of ice.

Nate and I brought our HD action cameras to see if we could get some under water footage of the fish taking our jigs. We kind of goofed around the first little while too much so we were not catching any fish. We also learned that if you put your camera on broom stick and lower down into the water that it scares the fish away. Once we decide to take the camera out of the water we started getting some action. We were fishing with white tube jigs tipped with mil-worms at first we had some bites but it was hard to set the hook with large jigs. I did catch one or two on the white jigs but decide to switch to a smaller glow in dark jig and string the mil-worm all the way onto the hook up to the glow in the dark head, leaving a part of the work hanging off the back like a tail. After I did this I started catching a bunch. It was getting late but I ended up landing 7 or so in the last 2 hours. Nate unfortunately only caught 1, sorry Nate :(

Nate has some pics from the trip I just have this video of some of the footage that we were trying to get.

Minsersville Res UT, Round 2! 12.1.2012

So my Dad and Brother talked me into running up to Minersville Reservoir again on Saturday. I was just there on Thursday but after the fun time that Jimmy and I had they wanted to go give it a try. We didn't catch a 21 incher like last time but my Dad did manage to pull this 20 inch trout out of the lake. We were fly fishing with streamers again and it seem liked some sinking line with brown or black was working well. There were a few float tubers doing well with some indicators and nymphs. The weather was perfect for Dec fishing about mid 50's and overcast. Nate and I want to try our hand ice fishing here when the ice first comes on. We have heard that it can be good. Well we came, we saw, and we conquered. Couldn't have asked for a better trip. We fished for 3 and half hours and caught 12 fish. Here are some more pics:

Here is a little video Clip we took of my Dad getting his 20 incher in. For my B-day I got this new freestyle action HD camera that we were trying out for the first time. It was kind of fun. I will have to learn how to edit the footage and make it better in the future but for now I'm throwing it up the way it is :)

Minersville Resevoir UT Fishing Report 11.29.2012

Minersville Reservoir Fishing Report. Jimmy and I decided to hit up Minersville Res on Thursday while the weather is still nice. We had heard you could catch some nice fish there so we thought what the heck. We caught around 14 total the smallest fish being 15 inches and the largest 21 inches. The average size was around 18-19 inches which was really fun to catch on a fly rod. We caught them all on streamers, green and brown was the color. We really surprised on how hard they fought. All in all it was a great day on the lake catching some really nice sized bows.

Weber River Fishing Report- 11/8/12

Ken Hendrickson and I cruised on up to the honey hole on the "Weeb" on Thursday November 8th 2012. The weather was perfect, a little windy because it was the day before the huge snow storm hit the salt lake valley dumping 25 total inches of snow in 2 days.  We started throwing some egg patterns and sow bugs.  Caught a few on those but we had to switch it up throughout the day to keep catching fish.  We caught a lot of white fish, a few browns.  We also caught them on midges (zebra's, emergers, and even a few on the "merc").  Foul hooked a few with the egg pattern because they are pretty aggressive this time of year if your drift an egg pattern in their spawning beds. Water flows were still super low, i am amazed at how low the river is.  The fish are definitely hanging out in reds, we walked up on some toads chillin in about 6-8 in of water and watched their dorsal fins flutter through the water as we got closer.  Here is a pic of once the nice browns of the day, we didn't take a pic of any of the whitefish we caught, who wants to see whitefish anyways? right? A face only a mother could love...

Yankee Meadow Reservoir 11.5.2012

You couldn't ask for better weather in November!  Jimmy was down in St. George this weekend so we decided we would try and get out for a quick fishing trip. We ended up running up to Yankee Meadow Reservoir at around 12. It took us an hour and half to get there. We were surprised at how many people were fishing on a Monday afternoon in Nov but I guess when its 60 degrees at 9,000 ft in Nov people get the same idea as you. The brookies were in full spawn and trying to run up a little inlet on the south side of the like. I caught the first brookie on about my 5th cast of the day on a green bugger but we caught all the rest of our fish on the famous Black Jack tied by Gill Rowley of http://flytying123.com/ and  http://gilflyfishing.com/ We had a lot of fun and will be using this fly again this winter. Here are a few pics from our trip.
